Stone houses and stained finishes
A Boerne kitchen has to sit next to limestone, exposed beams and a lot of hill country light coming through big windows. A flat white slab door tends to argue with all of that. Knotty alder and rift sawn white oak with some warmth in the stain hold their own against stone, and they hide the wear a house out here actually takes.
Scale is the other difference. The rooms are bigger, the ceilings are higher, and the island is often the largest piece of furniture anybody in the family owns. We draw those to the room instead of to a catalog width, and the support for a long overhang gets built into the base so nobody has to look at corbels holding up a countertop.
Ranchettes, pantries and the mudroom
A good share of our Kendall County work is not the kitchen at all. It is the walk in pantry that deserves real drawers instead of wire shelving, or the mudroom by the back door that has to swallow boots, dog leads and everything else that comes in off a property. Those rooms get the same plywood and the same finish as the kitchen.
Working this far out is also why we hold a set number of jobs at a time. If a drawer front needs adjusting three weeks after install, somebody drives back out and adjusts it. A shop that overbooks itself cannot make that promise and mean it, and out here you would be the one paying for the overbooking.
